STEPHEN P. MARRA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Stephen P. Marra was a beloved Rhode Island restaurateur and former Chairman of the RI Hospitality Association. The Stephen P. Marra Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving Rhode Islander continuing their education toward a career in the foodservice, lodging, or tourism industries.
The scholarship was created in his honor to assist local students and adult learners to realize their potential in the hospitality industry.
Stephen Marra owned six local eateries including: Cucina, Cucina Twist, Twist on Angel, Twist, Grille on Main and Waterplace. He is a past recipient of the RIHA's Man of the Year Award and a long-time supporter of Meals on Wheels. Over the years, Steve has made countless product and monetary donations supporting child and youth development, education, health, arts and community improvement and other causes. He passed away in August 2011.
The RI Hospitality Education Foundation (RIHEF) encourages individuals who are embarking on careers in the hospitality industry in Rhode Island. The RIHEF also promotes further education and training of incumbent workers; adult learners, and youth throughout the state of Rhode Island.
The Scholarship will be open to Rhode Islanders who are continuing their higher education toward a career in the foodservice, lodging or tourism industries and attending Johnson & Wales or the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).
