Mandatory Liquor Liability Insurance

The House and Senate passed legislation that will require any applicant or holder of a retail liquor license to file a certificate of insurance and maintain commercial general liability insurance as a condition of holding a retail license. Insurance coverage shall be no less than $300,000. This will go into effect on August 1, 2017. RIHA works with Hospitality Mutual Insurance for liquor liability insurance for RIHA members. The so-called " Work Place Bullying" legislation did not pass the House or Senate Labor Committees. The legislation would have lowered the standard for hostile work environment claims and would have opened employers up to increase liability from disgruntled employees.

Minimum Wage & Tipped Wage

Gradually increases the hourly minimum wage from $9.60 to $15.00 on January 1, 2022, as well as gradually increasing the hourly minimum wage for employees receiving gratuities from $3.89 an hour to $15.00 an hour on January 1, 2026.
